Worked in the phone room from 7 to 9 this morning.  In the days before computers, the internet and so many users of such, the phone room was a very busy place with people calling to find out where their favorite mushers were and who was in first, etc.  Now days there are few calls and a lot fewer people answering the calls.  Still there is a need as some to not have computers.  We also answer questions for school children doing assignments and people trying to locate various things or people. Having stayed up late last night I took a nap until my noon time shift in the stats room.  Worked in stats until 6 tonight.  It is in stats where the information of mushers progress is entered in to the computer for people to see.  As the mushers arrive at a check point they have to sign in and when they leave they are to let someone know.  This information along with how many dogs are on the team at arrival and departure is sent to comms who then sent it to stats so that the world can know.

Often a musher prefers not to stay at a check point but to travel on and camp on the trail or go on to the next check point.  There are 21 check points plus the start line and the finish line.  Karin has passed Rainy Pass (the 4th check point) and is on her way to Rohn.  Her game plan often is to travel 6-8 hours and then take a 6 hour rest.   It has been so warm during the day that I imagine she will travel quite a bit tonight.  The dogs are most comfortable traveling in zero to minus 10 degree weather...or even colder.

Tonight I have entered pictures of 12 of Karin's team members.  I hope I got them right as I find it hard to tell who is who.  Tomorrow I will get the remaining 4 in so that you can see all 16 by clicking on their name at the top of the page.

Work the rest of the week from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

  1. So, is there a website where we can see the progress of the mushers?
